5 Fab Friday

5 Things we are loving/wanting/dreaming of on this Friday

Stylish Mama:

1.

Fringed Drawstring Bucket Bag from the Express - this is a great everyday bag!  I love a shoulder strap, especially as a mom on the go...you might need to invest in a good shoulder bag!

2.

This frilly blouse by Zara would be a beautiful addition to anyone's spring wardrobe.  Love the sleeves, they are flirty and feminine.  Beautiful!

Organized Chica:

3.
Strapless Ruffle Front Romper - Express
Loving this new romper from Express.  I saw it in my Express catalog that I got in the mail this week and eyed it right away.  I may try it on to see how it fits and looks when I go to the mall.  Can you tell that I'm looking forward to the warmer weather?

4.

I'm in love with this song.  The original music video is beautiful as well, he sings the song to his wife, but I didn't post it because it may be too much for some.  I'm a helpless romantic and John Legend sings to your heart and soul.  The lyrics are so beautiful.  Hope you enjoy the song.

5.

We are going out for Mexican tonite for girls nite out...and of course that means we will be ordering a margarita!  TGIF!  Have a great weekend!

Jonathan Adler Organizing Picks

February 27, 2014

Organization products has come a long way from its original white plastic bins.  Now you can find boxes, planners, bags, all with some type of style and design.  Sometimes too pretty to hide away.  Although I'm more of neutral color type of chica, these few pieces captured my attention.  Here are a few favorites that I picked from the Jonathan Adler Collection that have lots of color and functionality.

1. List Pad - A Peek into My Weak $8.00  A great way to plan your to-do list for the week. How stylish would this look on your desk?

2. Binder Clips $9.95 I loved these the minute I saw them.  Each clip has phrases like "Junk in the Trunk", "Stache it or Trash it", "Stay Afloat Deadline on the Horizon" and "Pearfect Papers".  I'm adding these to my want list.  These phrases will help keep your paperwork on track.

3. Smartphone Dock $48.00 Aren't these the cutest things ever.  Not only does it look cute on your desk or side table while it holds your smartphone but it conceals that ugly charger.

4. 17- Month Agenda $20.00 I'm starting to really get into planners and I'm exploring all types of possibilities.  This style is simple yet chic.

Happy Organizing with Style,

Organized Chica - xox

Question and Answer Session

February 26, 2014

We had a lot of positive feedback from our last question and answer session we did...so we are bringing it back.  Hope you enjoy reading and learning a little bit more of what make us who we are!

1. What are you wearing right now?
Stylish Mama: A brown knitted sweater from the limited, All For Mankind 7 skinny Jeans, silver strand necklace my husband gave me from a business trip he went on last year, and brown leather riding boots from the GAP.

Organized Chica: PJ's!!!!  As soon as I walk through my house door, I make myself look totally unpresentable to the public eye!

2. Name Three Songs that are on your current play list:
Stylish Mama:
1. Best Day of my Life - American Authors- a fun and upbeat song! And it doesn't hurt that the lead singer is eye candy.
2.Such Great Heights - Postal Service - easy listening music
3. I Can't Go for That - Bird and The Bee - tribute to Hall & Oates.
I am such a geek, loving the classic band of Hall and &Oates - so when I heard this tribute song come up on my Pandora feed last week, I was hooked!

Organized Chica: I currently don't have a playlist.  I honestly just listen to my Pandora or Spotify and let it rip from there.  It really depends on my mood that moment, whether I'm listening to Salsa, R&B, Classical, etc.  My taste in music is pretty big so I just go with the mood.

3. What's a word you say a lot?
Stylish Mama: CUTE - yup...everything or everyone that I like can pretty much be summed up in the one word.  Cute.  Funny, I remember in HS the valedictorian of our class telling me I needed to expand my adjective vocabulary as I even used it all too much in my teen years.  And frankly, I like cute...cute is good, so that word is staying!

Organized Chica: Apparently I say "No problem" and "Thanks" a lot.  Not a bad thing right? I really do mean it when I say it so no harm done.

4. Where did you live in 1987?
Stylish Mama: I was living in Hyde Park, Boston right on the Jamaica Plain town line.  I actually remember hanging out in JP much more, my parents loved the shops there, the organic food stores, and the restaurants.  JP Licks (ice cream shop) is still one of my favorite places to visit in the summer.  The original ice cream shop in JP not the fancy one on Newbury Street.

Organized Chica: Good old Pawtucket, RI.  Nothing exciting really.  I still live in the same city.

5. What is an essential start of your day?
Stylish Mama: I am an iphone junky.  So guess it would be to lay in bed for a minute to catch up on who might have texted me, who posted something on instagram the night before...and emails.

Organized Chica: I'm guilty too, my cell.  Its how I find out what's going out there in the world and friends. Without it I feel lost and naked.  I need to check on everything. Another essential start of my day is my 30-45 minute HOT shower! I need this, if I don't get it, I'm grumpy.  It's my ME time!

6. Are you named after anyone?
Stylish Mama: My first name - no...my dad picked it out of a name book in the hospital.  I was suppose to be Jessica but my mom changed her mind last minute.  My middle name Arline is after my grandmother on my fathers side.

Organized Chica: You guessed it! Marilyn Monroe.  My dad watched her movie the night before I was born and when the nurse asked what my name was, the movie came to his mind.  (thank goodness he didn't watch some crazy movie!) Fun Fact: My maiden name, Moreno, has the same letters but different order than Monroe.  So yes, I have been called Marilyn Monroe on numerous occasions during my lifetime.  But no blond bombshell over here...lol

7. What do you prefer, computer or tv?
Stylish Mama: TV, when I do have the time, I love to veg in front of a good show or cooking network.  I find I get inspired by so many cooking shows or DIY shows out there.  Computer to me is work.  Me no likey work.

Organized Chica: Computer/IPAD is what works for me.  I really don't watch TV and when I do, I watch it on my laptop or Ipad.  I feel that I can get so much more done on a computer then the TV and if I'm watching TV, you will see me on the couch with my Ipad.

8. What's your favorite smells?
Stylish Mama: Clean white sheets.  And dinner cooking...what can I say, I am foodie!

Organized Chica: Jean Paul Gaultier Cologne! My favorite scent ever! Besides that, its the smell of clean! Clean sheets, clean house, clean showered skin, clean hair, clean babies! I think you get my drift.

9. Where is the furthest place you have traveled to?
Stylish Mama: Alicante, Spain.  I went a few years before I had my daughter with my hubby, and my best friend.  It was absolutely gorgeous.  The Mediterranean was full of beauty and great food!

Organized Chica: In my imagination or real life? lol I know, I know.  Medellin, Colombia when I went last fall.

10. Do you have any pets?
Stylish Mama: Yes.  A two and half year old tri-color King Charles Spaniel.  He is the sweetest and most dearest boy I have met.  He loves to snuggle with his mommy and his favorite snacks are carrots, and anything peanut butter.
His name is Bruin:

Organized Chica: Yes I do.  I have a 1 year old Yorkie that was given to me as a gift when I had to let go of my first baby who was a Shih-tzu named Peluche (Spanish translation: Stuffed toy animal) Almost a year later and I still miss him greatly but my Yorkie has brought happiness to me and has been a huge help to get through the passing of my first baby.
His name is Bam-Bam! He loves to play in my backyard and loves his veggies.  He gets his own little bowl of salads everyday.  He is still in training to learn more commands and tricks.

11. What is your biggest Pet Peeve?
Stylish Mama: Loud Eaters.  I watched a tv episode about a condition called Misophonia...I swear I had it after watching that show.  It showed how people are super sensitive to noises such as loud chewing, and slurping.

Organized Chica: Hahahaha! You really want me to get started on my long list???

  • People eating with their mouths open - ahhhhhh!!! We are not cows! I don't need to hear or see what you are eating.
  • Annoying useless noises: such as -tapping your fingers on a table, the second hand of a watch, humming, clicking of a pen, snores, etc
  • Changing plans on me last minute - one thing is an emergency but just canceling or changing something that we both previously agreed on is like pulling the rug under me.  This is a huge one for planner like me.
  • Seeing men wear white socks with suits and dress shoes. I swear I try to look the other way.
  • When people don't blow their noses and you know they really need to! Tissues please!!!
  • Cars not parked within the lines!
The list continues but lets just leave it at that. Guess I'm a picky one, huh?

Hope you enjoyed getting to know both of us a little better.  If you want, leave a message in response to your favorite question and with your answer for that question.  Then we could learn a little bit more about you all!

Happy Monday!

Part 3: Under the Stairs Linen Closet

February 25, 2014

Yiay! You should all know by now it's the little things that make me happy!

Linen closet door FINALLY got painted and the ClosetMaid Ventilated Storage Rack from Home Depot mounted!

If you want to see the transformation, read more about it on my two other posts.
Part 1: Under the Stairs Linen Closet

I transferred all my cleaning supplies that I'm currently using from my portable cart onto my door.  I also stocked it with paper towels and toilet paper because somehow when these two things run out, no one can find them.  Am I loving the setup of my new door organizer, ummm not really BUT I'm loving the fact that its up and I don't have a cart in the way of my closet anymore.  I still have to tweak exactly on how I want to utilize each shelf instead of stuffing it with toilet paper but for now it will do.  Sometimes you just need to use things to figure out exactly how you want to set them up and it may take some time but that's OK.

I was just super duper excited my door got painted and the organizer mounted that I wanted to share with you all how it looks now.

Happy Organizing,

Organized Chica, xox

the attack of the stomach bug

February 24, 2014

I have been playing the role of mommy, nurse, and housekeeper the last 24 hours.  My poor four year old is home sick with the stomach bug.  Or as she describes it "My tummy is angry!"
It all started around 4 am on Saturday nite and hadn't stopped till mid morning today.

I am happy to say she was able to eat and sit up without whining every minute that her stomach hurt this morning.  Its so sad to watch them so helpless.  You know its bad when the girl refused Popsicles!

Hope you are all keeping healthy! Good news is it was warmer this past weekend, so this mama enjoyed opening up the windows at home and letting in some fresh air and sunshine!

And the only upside of her being sick is that she is extra snuggly...most days she is too much on the go to want to stop for a snuggle session.
This mama is eating up snuggle time!

We are working on a questionnaire for the blog so that you can get to know us a little better this week...so stay tuned!

5 Things we are loving/wanting/dreaming of on this Friday

Stylish Mama:

1.
My favorite go to nail polish brand is Essie.  They just released their spring 2014 line of colors.  They make me smile...so bright and fun!  My eyes went straight to the dark pink one...when I clicked on it, I find out that the name of it is Fashion Hunter!  Coincidence for me? I think not.  Will need to buy this shade for the huntress in me!

2.
Photo Credit: Sweet Indulgence Facebook Page, Kerri Cupcake

I am totally craving a frozen hot chocolate from Sweet Indulgence, located at Pawtuxet Village in Cranston, RI.  Its so outrageously delish!  I really want to take my daughter here - two straws one large pink cup of frozen hot chocolate! Yes! (blaming PMS for this craving!)

Organized Chica:

This palette has been on my radar even before it hit the U.S. but every time I have tried to buy it, its been sold out! I need to go back to Sephora and try one more time.  I'm in love with the rose hued neutrals in this palette.  Perfect with Spring coming up.  Definitely want and need this in my makeup collection.

4.
Orla Kiely Cosmetic Bags $9.99 - $29.99
Orla Kiely partnered with Target to provide us with organization and style.  These functional and well designed organizers were intentionally designed to house your cosmetics but the possibilities are endless! You can use them to organize your purses, your planners, small projects, beauty supplies and the list goes on and on.  Aren't they adorable?

Stylish Mama Picks for February!

February 19, 2014

Hope all of you are staying warm, and dry as of lately.  This winter has been pretty brutal.  We keep getting snow storm after snow storm.  And for those of you who love snow...I know even some of you are over it as we approach the end of winter. Cannot wait for spring!  I heard we might be getting some warmer temps later this week in New England, so that to means that spring must be approaching. (yay!)

How was your President's Day?  We ended up having a great three day weekend!  My family and I did a lot of bonding, we went over to a friends house on Saturday for pizza and a play date for our kids.  It was snowing pretty bad so we couldn't stay as late as we wanted. (again, wishing for spring!)  And on Monday we took our four year old daughter to the Museum of Science in Boston.  We asked my husbands cousin to join us with her two adorable kids.  It was fun to watch my daughter walk through the very same museum I visited as a child her age with my parents.  Love when nostalgia hits home with me...I can honestly say having flashbacks of my childhood through parenting is pretty cool!

We had to visit the giftshop, we got astronaut ice-cream and of course asked my daughter to pick out a toy...
only a four year old would pick up a slimy creepy crawler caterpillar and ask for that as her souvenir. Before we left the giftshop I had her try on an astronut helmet...hoping she would want that instead as we often will play "spaceship" at home...nope, she wanted her creepy crawler caterpillar.  ughhhhh

At least I have a picture to keep for smiles.

Anyway, back to wishing for spring...my February picks are things I am eyeing and loving for this upcoming 2014 spring season.

1.
Rebecca Minkoff  Medium M.A.B Tote

Love this tote...and loving this color for spring.  Its called Minty, she is really purdy!

2.
JLo Jumpsuit in black

Jumpsuits are in this year!  And I am loving this look.  Such a versatile look, from casual to dressy.  All depending on your accessories.  Pair this with flat strappy sandals and bangles for a casual look.  And some heels and a fun patterned belt with dressy jewelry for a night time look.  Need to add this to my closet! I love this one as its affordable and is on sale at Kohls this week for $42.

3.
Kate Spade Umbrella

Love so many things about this umbrella!  Love that its over sized and hangs low so that it would cover you from rain getting onto your upper body.  And I really love the witty quote on it...who wants rain?  um, yeah...no thanks, I will take a RAIN CHECK!

4.
Tory Burch Mira Ballet Flats

Another fashion trend for Spring 2014 is cut-out patterned shoes.  I am loving this fun scalloped pattern on these Tory Burch ballet flats.  SO pretty!  They also come in black...but I am thinking these bronze colors would be a great alternative to a neutral shoe color.

Coupon Stockpiling

February 18, 2014

Howdy there friends! Did you enjoy your long 3-day weekend? I sure did! Not because I did anything out of the ordinary but because I was able to actually stay home and enjoy it.  I did a little bit of organizing and relaxation to recharge for the week.

I don't know about you, but I've tried over and over again to start saving money by couponing, but to be honest with you, it hasn't been that easy.  I can figure out the basics but the whole lingo and how you need to match offers with the store or with the manufacturer, at the end of the day, left me more stressed out then anything.  So I figured that my time was worth more then saving a few bucks.  I consider myself to be a savvy shopper for my household but when I see people getting triple the amount of groceries then what I am for the same money, I know I'm missing something.  COUPONS!

A while ago, a childhood friend, whom I had lost contact with for years, reached out to me through Facebook.  Now you know when you just become friends with someone on Facebook,  the first thing you do is look around at their photos.  Come on? Admit it! I know I'm not the only one...haha!...Ok  a little sidetracked.

Well as I'm looking at her photos, I notice she has images of deals that she has found and she continued posting them and I was in awe.  I wanted to be able to get the most for my buck too so this brings us to now.

Ladies and Gents!!! A huge round of applause for our first guest blogger!!  (You can tell that I'm super duper excited, huh?) The QUEEN of Couponing!!!! (She doesn't know I call her that until she reads this post...sorry but to be honest, to master what you do, in my mind, YOU ARE the QUEEN of Couponing!)

I have asked Lissette to kindly share with all of us her tips.  Hope this helps!

--------

I am so honored to be able to share with all of you the great wonders of Couponing.  I have been couponing for the past 2 years and I have to tell you I am hooked!! I love knowing that I will pay minimal or close to nothing for my items, but of course, the greatest satisfaction is to receive your items for FREE!  In these tough economically times, we all could use some help cutting down our grocery bill by 50-75%.

The first thing to remember when couponing is Keep Yourself ORGANIZED, you have no idea how badly a transaction can go when you’re not organized.

The way to keep organized is to get yourself a 3-ring binder from your local department store or if you have one at home that will work as well.  Buy a pack of baseball card holder sheets (40-ct pack at Wal-Mart $4.97) and some binder dividers. These three items are going to save you lots of headaches while cutting coupons and sorting them.

Now, the way I divide my binder is by categories (example: breakfast, drinks, condiments, prepared sides, surface cleaners, laundry etc...).  Once you decide which way you want to divide your binder, it's time to get some coupon inserts and start cutting away! But before you go crazy doing this there is one more important step to all this madness, I always encourage everyone to print out your favorite stores coupon policy and carry this with you at all times. The reason for this is 9 out of 10 times you will have to deal with a cashier that is not very coupon savvy which means they will not want to honor your coupons BUT if you’re a smart cookie you will have that stores coupon policy readily available for the cashier.

Now that you know how to organize yourself let’s talk a little bit about coupon inserts.  When purchasing your newspapers please keep in mind to always buy in even numbers (2,4,6 etc…)not odd numbers 1, 3 or 5 (This depends on how many items you want to stock up on. The reason for that is when you find a good BOGO deal (buy one get one) you will need a coupon for each item to maximize your savings. So basically if Shaw’s has Bogo deal on Crest toothpaste for $1.99 you are automatically going to get both items for $1.99 but if you have two coupons for any Crest toothpaste and these are valued at $1.00 each you will get both items for free, had you only had one coupon you would end up paying $.99 cents for both which is still a great deal but remember we are always trying to maximize our savings.

I hope you enjoyed my take on couponing, please stay tuned for more on couponing.

For daily updates on couponing, you can also follow me on Facebook on Coupon Stockpiling.

Thank you Lissette for taking time to stop by and share with us a few tips on how we can get started.  Like anything, ORGANIZATION is key in starting and maintaining a system.  Let's recap on what supplies we will need to get started.

Make sure to follow her Facebook page to see the new deal she found and how much she paid for it.  Breaking it down like she did doesn't seem so intimidating.  I think I'll give her method a try.  I'll start off slowly.

Any of you use coupons to shop? Please leave your questions or suggestions below.

5 Things we are loving/wanting/dreaming of on this Friday

Stylish Mama:

1.
My daughter at Disney
I am absolutely done - checked out- and over with winter. The cold and the snow has given me cabin fever. I haven't stopped thinking this week of my last trip to Disney. My daughter asks to go back all the time...and this week, I really would give anything to sit at the hotel pool and of course enjoy all the fun of the parks. Who else is with me??

2.
Lemon Collection

Lets get away from the topic of winter...as Spring is Right Around the Corner!  I am loving this cheerful happy dinnerware set by Sur la Table.  I love lemons, I love yellow...so I am thinking I may need to order a few pieces to add to my collection.

Organized Chica:

3.
Tortilla Flats Restaurant, Providence, RI
I can't say enough about this restaurant, I ate there last week and still haven't gotten over on how good their food and drinks were.  If you are in the area and want to try some good yummy Mexican food with an outrageous drink, this is the place.  Place gets packed so either make reservations, get there early or prepare to wait.  I went last week and we tried their chicken Tamale for appetizer, Carne Asada el Guajillo and Tostadas as entrees, and finished with their oh so warm and sweet Churros.  All accompanied by the BEST MARGARITA EVER!!!  You need to check this place out, no regrets!

This is my first winter with no SUV and I'm hurting! Driving in the snow with a small car is not fun.  This winter is making me want to buy a SUV since we are getting slammed with snow left and right.  I've always loved having an SUV but unfortunately the one I had, was too old and we had to get rid of it.  Will I ever afford my Dream SUV, probably not!, but this is 5 Fab Friday, I can dream a little! :)

Gap Spring Preview

February 12, 2014

Last night I attended to the spring line release event for the Gap in my home town of Bellingham, MA.

I love this store.  I probably frequent it much more than I should.  (sorry hubby)  Love how their adult line is always has a classic look. Their body line is great for undergarments and bathing suits...and don't even get me started on their adorable kids line!  Hopefully you checked out my Paddington Bear Collection post I wrote up last week.  Love it!

Here are a few items I am loving from their spring line!

If you have a chance head on over to the Gap and check out these beautiful pieces in person. The store in my town did not have any more of the butterfly scarfs, so I bought another really pretty scarf...but I am tempted now in ordering the butterfly one as I heard they went quick!

Speaking of spring looks, my daughter modeled at a spring photo shoot for a local photographer yesterday.  It was so much fun to see her get all dolled up, they had stylists, hair and make-up.  She looked stunning when she was all done up. I can only imagine how gorgeous the photos will be from the photographer!

The photos above are taken from my i-phone...can't wait to see the actual images.

Hope you are having a Terrific Tuesday!

Photo Mania

February 11, 2014

I don't know about you, but my pictures aren't necessarily organized the way I want them.  I did organized 75% of my printed pictures into albums about 8 years ago but that project came to a halt.  I have to revisit that one but honestly its a bit overwhelming, and let's not talk digital images, that's another story.

When I saw that NAPO was going to do a workshop based on photo organization, I had to attend.  Let me share with you a few of my notes that I found helpful and hope to implement with my photos.  For now, I added this to my "Project List" with no definite deadline. (I'll discuss what my "Project List" is all about in a future post)

Husband and wife, Philip and Susan, from PSG Photo Solutions leaded the workshop and shared with us their tips.

Gather all your images into one place.  I'm guilty of this, I have digital images in all my electronic devices but I do have all my printed images pictures in one place.

1. Choose software - such as Historian or Lightroom
2. ABC's of Organizing

  • Album - store the images you want to be able to share or look at
  • Box - store away images that you want to keep for yourself for memories but not share with others
  • Can - feel free to delete all those bad images or duplicates.  Only keep the best.
  • Story - each picture brings memories so stop and write them down (don't use pens or labels)
3. Organize by theme - such as Baby Shower, Wedding, Graduation, etc

A product that they highly recommended was the Picture Keeper.  A great tool to back up your digital images instantly.  No special cables or software needed and it deletes your duplicates as well.

I definitely need to set some time aside to start organizing my pictures, hope these few tips will help you.

Happy Organizing,

Organized Chica, xox

5 Things we are loving/wanting/dreaming of on this Friday

Stylish Mama:

1.
Tiffany 1837 Rubedo ring

Rubedo is a new metal that Tiffany is selling for a limited time - it is a beautiful rose shade and Tiffany says it just glows when you wear it. What woman doesn't want to glow?!?

2.
J. Crew Canvas Leopard Baseball Cap

Some days are bad hair days...or just don't feel like doing much with your hair if you have to run errands or see your child play a game outdoors.  I am one that always grabs a baseball hat on those days.  But I am thinking a cute leopard print one would be a fun alternative.  Plus Leopard in my book is like a neutral color, goes with everything!

Organized Chica:

Well in case you haven't heard, I am HUGE New Kids on the Block fan, so you betcha that I want to try out the Wahlberg's family fancy restaurant, Alma Nove. I've heard good things about it and what kind of fan would I be if I didn't go support the Wahlberg's.  Definitely on my restaurant wish list!

4.

My favorite comedy to watch, The Big BANG THEORY!  I love this show, I can always count on them to make me laugh so hard.  It's refreshing to watch genuine comedy!!  I love me some Sheldon!  HAHA!! Any of you watch? You will know what I mean.
